I don't see how you can dismiss Ford's Masonry as just some sort of "benign" hobby or social club. Masonry is not something that one rises in by just attending meetings. One must participate in increasingly complicated rites, in which the theology of Masonry is ever more explicit.

Well lets see first off my comments on the CIA's interest in the Ford foundation is speculative, but can seen in the Agency's interest them as popular front era organisations (notably as a funder) and if you knew anything about anti-Communism in the 1940s and 1950s you would know that the CIA (and FBI for that matter) were deeply worried about popular front tactics (which had been so successful twice [20s and 40s]) so it is perfectly reasonable to assert that they had a hand in the Ford foundation (much like they used the United Fruit Company as a proxy) and used its funds to support left wing groups and causes that were anti-Communist per Louis Budenz's widely read arguments in the late 40s/early 50s. An example of them doing this is the socialist author Daniel James who we know received CIA funding and help to write a critical biography of Che Guevara from the left to try to remove the problem of Che's legend.
As to Ford's Masonry: actually you can be a deeply committed Christian and a Mason as many, many members of Freemasonry have been that in the past. In fact a good whack of Freemasonry's historians have been Christian priests and I've never read anything to make me think they were not sincere. Even Nesta Webster and Friedrich Wichtl (two of the most widely read anti-Masonic writers of all time) allowed for this and correctly; IMO, argued that Masonry was something that while negative and subversive had many members who knew and did nothing negative or subversive themselves, but rather it was the leadership's ideology and the general nepotism that was the problem.

ReplyDeleteWell lets see first off my comments on the CIA's interest in the Ford foundation is speculative, but can seen in the Agency's interest them as popular front era organisations (notably as a funder) and if you knew anything about anti-Communism in the 1940s and 1950s you would know that the CIA (and FBI for that matter) were deeply worried about popular front tactics (which had been so successful twice [20s and 40s]) so it is perfectly reasonable to assert that they had a hand in the Ford foundation (much like they used the United Fruit Company as a proxy) and used its funds to support left wing groups and causes that were anti-Communist per Louis Budenz's widely read arguments in the late 40s/early 50s. An example of them doing this is the socialist author Daniel James who we know received CIA funding and help to write a critical biography of Che Guevara from the left to try to remove the problem of Che's legend.
As to Ford's Masonry: actually you can be a deeply committed Christian and a Mason as many, many members of Freemasonry have been that in the past. In fact a good whack of Freemasonry's historians have been Christian priests and I've never read anything to make me think they were not sincere. Even Nesta Webster and Friedrich Wichtl (two of the most widely read anti-Masonic writers of all time) allowed for this and correctly; IMO, argued that Masonry was something that while negative and subversive had many members who knew and did nothing negative or subversive themselves, but rather it was the leadership's ideology and the general nepotism that was the problem.

It is not just the amount one drinks that makes drinking a sin. It condemns the drink itself.
